In just a few weeks time I will be slipping on a wet suit and starting the first leg of the Alpe d’Huez triathlon. This is a gruelling swim, cycle and run event held in the French Alps, with a brutal 1000m cycle ascent of the Alpe d’Huez pass (notorious as a stage of the Tour de France) as its centrepiece. Why I am putting myself through this? Partly through a masochistic streak, but mainly to raise money for Parkinson’s UK and to raise awareness of the disorder.
